Last Saturday night's Rotary White Charity Event at Outrigger Laguna was indeed magical -- a coincidence of all things that make a party wonderful and a Charity Gala successful.
The evening began with a prismatic sunset, enjoyed beachside by the fifty charitable guests all dressed in White. As the stemware were drained, the sunset dimmed, and the music paused, all guests ambled into the elegant white dining room to enjoy many well presented pairings of superb food, high quality music and libations. -- and enjoy we did, beyond our dreams.

Resulting from COVID 19 many construction workers lost their jobs & were left destitute.
They often live in substandard housing with galvanized metal sheeting for walls & ceiling.

RC Patong Beach is proud to be part of a Global Grant project #2342607 in the amount of 100k USD led by RC Poochaosamingprai and RC Euijeongbu-Hoiryong from South Korea to equip a local hospital with hemodialysis machines and RO water system needed to support them. Four machines + RO system is phase 1 of a multi-year project aiming for a total of 20 machines. Nowadays in Thailand, kidney failure due to various reasons including but not limited to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and poor diet is one of the challenges faced by medical professionals.
Hemodialysis is one way to treat kidney failure by cleaning the blood with filter 3-4 times weekly so that patients are able carry on an active life despite failing kidneys. Blood cleaning on a regular basis is an expensive undertaking. It requires sophisticated machine and a team of dedicated professionals.
We hope that the machines will be put to good and well maintained for years to come.

It commenced following the Tsunami of December 26th 2004, & has assisted many children over the years with support.
It is not only for the children of Phuket, but also for the coastal areas affected by the Tsunami near Khao Lak.
One great result was of two sisters, who lost both parents in the Tsunami & received a scholarship. They were very bright children & went on to university
The scholarships provide financial assistance for uniforms & other school requirements. It has been well received by the children & parents. The program is constantly monitored, to ensure the child is still needing assistance as family circumstances change.

There is one school in the program, with another two being added this Rotary Year.
More than 300 children have participated & received their certificates, & another 300 will learn water safety.
3 – to 5 children drown each day in Phuket in Klongs & the ocean.
As Phuket is an island, water is not far from the children’s homes & saving the children is essential as they gain more confidence & enjoy water activities.

Children are the future of a country, and in Thailand, they are considered the most valuable resource. A Thai saying states, "Children are the nation's future; if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous." Like other countries, Thailand observes National Children's Day, which is celebrated on the second Saturday of January every year. It is known as "Wan Dek" in Thai. This day is celebrated with fun activities for children and introduces them to their significant role in the country's development.
The Rotary Club of Patong Beach is participating in the event organized by the mayor of Patong. Fifteen of our club members plus family members joined us today to make countless kids happy with free ice cream and face paintings. The pictures speak for itself.
We also received a cheque from Flughafenverein Munich e.V., represented by Thomas Bihler, for 6,000 Euros (230,000 THB) to support our children's swimming program. Thank Thomas and Flughafenverein Munich.
