Lenses for Learning
Bringing Clear Vision to Phuket’s Children:
Lenses for Learning
The Rotary Club of Patong Beach is making a meaningful difference in the lives of Phuket’s youth through its ongoing “Lenses for Learning” community service initiative. This impactful program provides free prescription eyeglasses to local children in need, ensuring that vision problems don’t stand in the way of learning, play, or success at school.
Through partnerships with area schools and optical providers, Rotary organizes vision screenings—conducted by professional optometrists—directly on school grounds, making it easy for children to get the care they need without missing valuable classroom time. After the screenings, custom lenses and frames are crafted and handed out during special events hosted at each participating school.
Since its launch, “Lenses for Learning” has already helped about 1,400 children see the world (and the blackboard!) more clearly. At a recent handover event in July 2025, Rotarians distributed nearly 2,269 pairs of new glasses, celebrating alongside students and teachers. These moments offer a firsthand view of the positive impact Rotary volunteers are having—and a chance to discover even more ways to support local schools.
With each pair of glasses, Rotary advances its motto of “Service Above Self,” helping young learners achieve their full potential and brightening the future for families across Phuket.
