Economic and Community Development
This month the Rotary Club of Patong Beach highlights how we support our community, not just with immediate aid, but with long-term development initiatives; by empowering local communities through sustainable solutions and supporting special needs students as part of their vocational training,
With the money raised from the Reggae Waves 2024 fundraiser our Club funded a sustainable organic garden and a roof over the vegetable patches for the TCDF (Thai Child Development Foundation).
To help staff and students from planting new crops to selling produce through a durable infrastructure;
abandoned and damaged vegetable patches were restored;
a new sprinkler system and metal racks for seedlings were installed;
a multipurpose fishpond for raising fish and snails, also serving as a irrigation source for the garden, was built;
and education signs for students were placed in Thai and in English.
Thus, a more sustainable and self-sufficient ecosystem - free from chemical fertilisers and pesticides – ensures long-term benefits for students and the community, from planting seeds to selling produce. Thanks to the roof, they now can farm all year round.
The organic garden was officially opened in March of this year.
