Come join a Rotary Service Project to paint some of the children's rooms at the Life Home Project in Phuket. The painting will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with lunch provided. The rooms will be prepared and primed before we arrive, so it will be an easy and fun painting project. No previous painting experience or painting skills are necessary. We will be using low VOC water-based paint for health and easy cleanup. The board has approved the purchase of the paint, brushes, and lunch for this project. The Rotary Club of Patong Beach has helped the Life Home Project since its founding in 2002. It will be a great chance for us to return and reengage with this worthy Phuket home for children that are impacted by HIV. Here is some more information about Life Home Project and what they do: In recognizing the current needs of the HIV-positive community in Phuket, The Life Home Project Foundation is focused on helping HIV-positive children and AIDS-affected children. Our children’s home, permitted by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, fosters children from 1 year old to 17 years old. Our operations were awarded for the work over several consecutive years. We offer these children a warm shelter, provide a caring environment and higher quality of life than many would otherwise have in their homes with HIV-infected or AIDS affected family members. The Life Home Project Foundation’s educational scholarship program supports the children currently living in the project as well as those who have lived at the project and are now old enough to be living in the community. In addition, our daycare service for children of HIV affected families allows HIV-infected parents to earn a living during the day while their children are being cared for. The young children are given nutritious meals, taught child development exercises and given a general education to prepare them for kindergarten. The Life Home Project Foundation has adapted to the changing needs of HIV-affected individuals. We must continue to support and acclimate our programs to cater to the needs of the HIV/AIDS community, while continuously helping the children currently housed at the project, many of whom have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS, to ensure a positive future for them.

The Rotary Club of Patong Beach is pleased to welcome, Andrea Edwards CSP, who is a co-founder of "One Phuket". Andrea will be sharing with us the work One Phuket has done to date, especially around the Life Bag programs across Phuket and the surrounding islands, support for Scholars of Sustenance (SOS), as well as to share plans moving forward, which will continue with the philosophy of bringing all of the passionate and talented people together to ensure we succeed. Right now, One Phuket is putting in place plans for local farming initiatives, an Island-wide clean up, and driving Phuket towards a sustainable future and for it to become a globally recognized world leader in sustainable tourism. This will be a huge challenge to succeed and we’ll need our entire community to come together, believe in possibilities, and support it to make it happen. Your health is important and an annual health check-up can give you the confidence that all is well monitored and taken care of. Luckily we live on an island with many options of hospital care...though these options are not easy to compare and even choosing the right program level at your preferred hospital could need some medial explanation. Is the premium program worth it for me? What do i get for it? How does my special medical history should be considered? Dr. Chaiwat and James Cawood from the Bangkok Hospital Siriroj will explain their Health Check program, what the tests are aiming for, and which personal medical history demand certain tests. Special Italian 3-course dinner: 500 THB

Aug 24, 2021 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Dear Rotarians and friends of the club, living in Phuket poses its unique challenges due to its multi-cultural environment. Various cultures from around the world meet / work together and sometimes do not understand each other. Our guests speaker Angela Heise from Germany has lived in many countries and exepirenced this first hand. As a personal coach she made this topic a core skill for executives to learn in order to manage their international organisations in a better way. Now she will help us to live better together....
Topic of our ZOOM meeting: "Global Village Skills and Life between Cultures" When we interact with others from the same culture within the same cultural context, we automatically follow unconscious rules. Asking someone to describe what these rules are is like asking a fish to describe water. We live in a behavioural values framework we take completely for granted. When we then come across people from other cultures, uncomfortable emotions and unexpected reactions tell us that we can no longer depend on these rules. We can no longer rely on our perception about what is appropriate behaviour and what isn’t, what works and what doesn’t. Please join us for this informative presentation with Angela Heise about how you can adjust to unpredictable cultural patterns and develop your cultural intelligence. Angela has lived in nine, worked in sixteen and traveled in over 50 countries. As a professional trainer and coach with twenty-five years of experience, she helps her clients to understand themselves and others more deeply, so they can be more effective and connect at work and at home.

Come join us for a Zoom meeting with a special guest speaker and author, Alastair Carthew.
Alastair Carthew, a former member of our club, will speak about his second novel, Divine’s Choice, After the Windsors it’s ALL BLACK. Alastair previously spoke about his first book, Proud, in 2019. Divine’s Choice is a parody about two iconic institutions: the English royal family and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team. It’s a romance story, with adventures in the wilds of beautiful New Zealand with many twists and turns keeping readers guessing to the final page, all told with a sharp sense of humor. Alastair will also speak about the loneliness of the long distant author; the trials and tribulations of getting a self-published book on Amazon or published at all; and the advantages of living on Phuket to writing novels.

Woman entrepreneurship in Thailand and ASEAN
Are women entrepreneurs born or made? Can entrepreneurship be taught?
How do women network differently?
What are the attitudes and aspirations of woman entrepreneurs and what are the framework conditions for women led businesses in Thailand? German “Mittelstand” and Thai tiger cubs: Is an explosion of women led Thai “Mitelstand” in the making?
Is women’s entrepreneurship an effective way to combat challenges and stimulate sustainable business practices, and to promote gender equality?
What are the challenges faced by young people? Can we empower youth and women entrepreneurs in our local communities?
How do Thai and ASEAN women perceive their leadership style? Can their quotes from interviews disclose the secret: “Where a woman rules, streams run uphill”?
Guelich & Guelich will investigate questions such as these and above all, your contributions to a discussion.
